Catherine is an artist who loves both art and science. She has degrees in Art History and Biology, which she blends into her creative work. Her unique combination of these two fields allows her to approach art with both an analytical and imaginative perspective. She also studied studio arts, which further developed her skills and passion for creating. Catherine enjoys experimenting with different types of art, from traditional painting to digital, always seeking new ways to express her ideas.
Photography and Digital Composites
Catherine began her art journey with photography and is a founding member of The Saint Augustine Camera Club. She initially focused on capturing the world through her camera lens, but when her photos didn’t quite match her vision, she expanded her creativity by making digital composites. Using Photoshop and other digital tools, she transforms old photographs into imaginative new works, bringing them back to life in a way that blends history with fantasy. Her composites often feature layers of intricate detail and whimsical elements, giving viewers a sense of nostalgia mixed with wonder.
Illustrating The Prophet
One of Catherine's most ambitious projects has been illustrating Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet. This project allowed her to merge her love of literature with her artistic talents, resulting in a series of illustrations that add a new dimension to Gibran's classic text. She offers special edition prints of each chapter, inviting people to experience the beauty of the book in a whole new way. Her artwork aims to complement the poetic messages of The Prophet, enhancing the emotional and spiritual experience for readers.
Needle-Felting: A New Creative Outlet
Recently, Catherine started exploring needle-felting, a form of fiber art that involves sculpting wool into various shapes and figures. This new medium has quickly become another creative outlet for her, allowing her to create textured, three-dimensional pieces that are full of character and charm. Her needle-felted works have already earned her several awards and commissions, showcasing her versatility and talent across different artistic forms. Catherine's journey is driven by her curiosity, her willingness to take risks, and her passion for exploring new art forms. Whether working digitally or with traditional materials, she is always looking for new ways to grow as an artist and share her vision with others.
