Biography
Lissette “Lissi” Vazquez is a self-taught creator whose artistic journey began with crayons, cassette-case tracings, and the limitless imagination of a child finding refuge in art. Growing up as an ESOL student without access to formal art classes, she honed her skills by observing, intuiting, and tinkering late into the night—habits that still shape her practice today.
Loss and emotional hardship threaded through her childhood, making art an essential escape valve. Yet adulthood—and especially motherhood—soon claimed the hours once reserved for creative play. Determined not to let that spark fade, Lissi transformed necessity into opportunity by establishing Henna by Lissi. Turning art into a business “tricked” her into protecting studio time, and each design became a step back toward her authentic self.
Lissi’s henna work draws on traditional South Asian and Middle Eastern motifs while weaving in her own fluid line work and whimsical symbolism. Away from the cone, she explores acrylic and mixed-media pieces shared under the handle In33dspace, where spontaneous doodles, textured layers, and handwritten thoughts collide. The raw honesty of those posts has earned her a loyal following on TikTok and Instagram, amplifying her voice as both artist and mother.
Across every surface—skin, canvas, or sketchbook—Lissi’s hand searches for connection. Her fine lines echo resilience; her bold strokes celebrate reclaimed joy. By inviting viewers into her evolving process, she embodies Art Box Gallery’s commitment to showcasing makers who blur boundaries between craft, community, and personal healing.
